How De Soto Sport is Made: Craft, Quality, and Innovation Under one Roof

When you choose products from De Soto Sport, you’re choosing more than just high-performance apparel—you’re investing in craftsmanship, innovation, and a company that has stayed true to its roots. Every garment is made entirely in our own building, from the first cut to the final stitch. We don’t outsource. We don’t mass-produce. Instead, we create in small batches, ensuring that what you wear is different from the masses while honoring the craft of making something by hand.

Paper Patterns: The Old-School Difference

While most companies rely on digitized patterns cut by lasers, we’re unapologetically old-school. Our designs are made from paper patterns, cut by hand with scissors. Why? Because it allows for smoother curves, better seam lines, and an artisanal touch that technology simply can’t replicate. Just like a hand-built bike, a camera with film, or the warm analog sound of a vinyl record, nothing beats the character and quality of something crafted by hand.

Small Batch Production: A Different Kind of Apparel

Every De Soto piece is produced in runs of fewer than 200. That means what you wear isn’t mass-market—it’s yours, with a character and distinction you won’t find elsewhere.

But it goes deeper than just quantity. Our entire process happens under one roof:

  • Fabric Cutting: Done in-house for precision and care.
  • Sublimation: Heat-pressed and finished right here, ensuring vibrant colors, and  lasting designs.
  • Sewing: Our team of five expert seamstresses stitch every garment, paying attention to details machines alone can’t deliver.
  • Threads That Stretch: Just like our fabrics, our German-engineered threads stretch with you. No other sportswear company does this, and it’s one of the many reasons De Soto garments perform the way they do.

This level of detail makes our sewing room less of a workspace and more of a playroom—a place where tools, fabrics, and craft come together to bring each idea to life.

Sourcing the Best

Performance starts with materials, and we’ve always insisted on using only the best. From our custom-developed fabrics like Skincooler™, Forza Compressor™, and MicroSurf™ to the merino wool sourced from a small family farm in Bavaria, we control every step of the supply chain. That way, we know exactly what goes into the garments you wear.

Innovation at the Core

De Soto Sport isn’t just about craft—it’s about pioneering performance. Over the years, we’ve been the first to bring countless innovations to endurance sports, including:

  • The first sports apparel company to design and create its own fabrics.
  • The first mesh running cap.
  • The first triathlon pack.
  • The first pad made from synthetic fabrics and foams.
  • The first triathlon specific short.
  • The first pockets on bike shorts, bibs, triathlon shorts, and run shorts.
  • The first suit designed to swim, bike, and run without changing.
  • The first to make compression garmentsThe first arm coolers. The first cooling fabrics.
  • The first and only two-piece wetsuit for swimming.
  • The first to design seat pads that brought comfort to almost any cycling saddle.

And through it all, we’ve remained one of the few brands still committed to in-house manufacturing in the USA.

Why It Matters

In a world dominated by outsourced, wasteful, mass-market production, De Soto Sport stands apart. Our way takes more time, more care, and more attention to detail—but the result is something better. Something crafted. Something innovative. Something that feels as good to wear as it does to stand behind.

When you wear De Soto, you’re not just wearing apparel. You’re wearing a story of craftsmanship, innovation, and authenticity—designed and built entirely for you.
